Koran Burning…

Wouldn’t you know, church and religion is in the news again. I would humbly submit that most Americans are not angry with and mis-trust all Muslims. The problem is with the extremist. Let’s be honest, every religion has them, even Christianity. The problem that most people I talk to have is that the adherents of Islam that disagree with the extremist will not stand up and denounce them. Thereby, giving tacit approval with their silence.

Now, we have a “Christian” church and pastor planning to burn the holy book of Islam. Is this justified? Is it right? And what about the right to do such a thing? First things first, yes the pastor and church absolutely have the Constitutional right to burn what they want. Is it the right thing to do? Absolutely not! But the question is why, why is it not the right thing to do?

Jesus had followers, we all know that; twelve ordinary men. Two betrayed him, two others argued and had their mommy request on their behalf to have special treatment when Jesus brought about His Kingdom. When those that disagreed with, even hated, Jesus came calling one of the disciples was ready for the fight. So much so that Peter showed a knife, took the first swing and cut off an ear. Justifiable right? Defending his beliefs and Lord (prophet); yet he was flat wrong, according to Jesus.

Peter is flatly rebuked by Jesus and told to put his sword away. No way around it, violence is not the way of Jesus. Tragically, in the name of God, the love of Jesus is being lost because like Peter, a small band of people are taking the same action as Peter, the extreme path; the path of violence. For the record, I do not condone or support this Koran burning in any way. The Rose City Church of the Nazarene strives to communicate the love of Jesus in every possible way and officially denounces the Koran burning and any and all acts of violence.
