The Bible - pt.3
The Bible; in an odd way it’s not nearly as interesting as people’s reaction to it. I have to admit that I don’t really understand why people are so threatened by it. It does call for a certain standard of living, it does call to account the innate selfishness that we all struggle with, and within its pages we have Jesus calling all people to God, the Father, through himself. But why is Jesus being the only way to God so offensive? Simple; good ole’ fashioned control. We simply want to have control of our own destiny, whatever that may be.
Yet, what most people miss, even Christians, is the incredible hope, grace, and love of God the Father through Jesus. People focus on and fight over the dumbest things within the Bible, and almost every argument misses the point of whatever “section” the argument is over. So, first things first; the worst thing to ever happen is the loss of the relationship found in its pages for the religion found in most churches. Yes, in fact, the Bible is the record of God’s relationship with humanity, not the guideposts for the religion most people call “being Christian”.
One of the greatest selling books of all time sits in total neglect and silence on so many shelves, in hundreds of languages. Yet, if it were to be opened and read, many people would find exactly what they are looking for. From cover to cover, even in the “boring parts”, the love of God flows from its pages only to find closed and hardened hearts. Control over our own destinies is a hollow illusion. The loving guidance of God the Father through Jesus is incredibly real for any and all who are willing to accept it.
Jesus never said he wanted to take “control” as we know it. He did demonstrate and teach that God has a plan, but nowhere is it ever taught in the Bible that your voice in your life has to be silenced and your led about like a fish with a hook in your mouth. Quite the contrary! Sadly, many are blinded by their (our) own stubborn arrogance of what they think is in the Bible, never actually reading and listening…
