What Do You Say?
What do you believe? Not think, but what do you believe or who do you believe in, and are you willing to die for it? A lot of people are willing to die for their spouses, their kids, and possibly some other extended family members. But do you believe something so much that you would literally be willing to die for it? I believe that most Christians in America would say a quick “yes” to that question. But considering the fact that Christians in America are being largely ineffective, the reality is, their lives scream a resounding “NO!” What happened? What happened to the Christians that used to invite friends, neighbors, and family to church? What happened to the type of Christian that would empty their savings accounts and give the money to the church? What happened to the Christian that was absolutely committed to their church and their faith at all costs?
I have a theory; fear. Plain ‘ole fear is the problem. We have allowed the world to re-define us as narrow-minded, naive’, ignorant, judgmental, and a whole host of other things. Since no one likes to be called names, two things happened. Some Christians started screaming back and lost all credibility. Others became afraid of all the labels and just became silent, abandoned their faith, or just simply tried to blend in. Fear has stopped the progress of the Kingdom of Heaven in America. Christians have, in short, become a bunch of cry-babies with regard to society. Problem is, Jesus said that fear is the opposite of faith. Unbelief in Jesus is foolishness wrapped in arrogance. Fear is the absence of faith.
1 John 4:4 is clear, “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.” This is a blatant acknowledgement of good and evil, and we are right smack in the middle of it. Does it scare you? If you deny Jesus, it should. If you claim Jesus, it should not. The opinions of society are irrelevant. What matters is your faith, or lack thereof. Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Well… who do YOU say that He is? Are you willing to die for that belief?
