Wisdom - pt. 1

A question popped into my mind as I was reading in Proverb: do we actively seek wisdom? It’s a tough question because we don’t seem to have consensus on what “wisdom” actually is. The most basic distinction between “knowledge” and “wisdom” is that knowledge is all the stuff you know. Everything from the simple things like the name of colors and identifying numbers, to the most complex equations and theories of physics; all of it falls under the heading of  “knowledge”. Wisdom is all together different; it is the use, or lack of use, of all your knowledge. If you use all that you know to better your life and make good choices, then you are acting wisely. If you ignore what you know and go against your knowledge and act poorly, then you are a fool. A fool is simply a person that knows right from wrong and chooses wrong.

The question remains, do we actively seek wisdom? Judging by the size of the “Self-Help” isle in any major book store, the answer would appear to be “Yes.” But is that really the active seeking of wisdom? I would suggest that those isles of “Self-Help” books are more a demonstration of our arrogance than they are an active seeking of wisdom…
